There's a moment at Sutro Baths just before the sun drops where the sky and the sand go the same color. We made sure to be there for that.
Then we drove to Lands End for the cliff-edge angles: sharper light, wider horizons, the kind of frame that makes the surrounding coast look bigger.
From there we drove down to Baker Beach for the back end of the day, when the sand catches pink and the marine layer comes in to flatten everything.
We finished at Legion of Honor for the architecture: clean lines, long shadows, a contrasting frame from the natural-light stops.
Two-plus hours of slow walking, quiet direction, and a couple drives between spots. Each location added a different look to the gallery (coast, cliff, ridge, trees) without the day ever feeling rushed.
Twelve months from now they'll point to one of these 144 frames and say "that's the one we put on the save-the-dates."
See each spot in depth.
