What sells Gray Whale Cove is the drop. Cliff edge, open sky, a couple silhouetted against the Pacific. We worked in raking light, the kind that arrives once a day and then it's gone.
Two hours of slow walking and quiet direction. No awkward poses, no "say cheese," just a couple who like each other in a place that suited them. We rotated through a couple of micro-locations within the spot, picking up different angles as the sun moved.
The view does most of the work. The couple does the rest. 30 photos of one quiet hour at the edge of the Pacific.
