How it went
The trails through Golden Gate Overlook open up onto views you can't see from the road. We picked our way along the ridgeline, stopping at the angles that mattered.
Then we drove out to Stag's Leap Winery for the late-afternoon vineyard light. Long shadows down the rows, color in every direction.
Multi-location shoots are equal parts choreography and improvisation. We mapped the order in advance, but the actual frames came from being patient at each stop until the light cooperated.
Trail shoots take more out of you than the photos suggest. Half a mile of walking, a thousand feet of elevation, the right light at the right turn, and then it's over.
